Stone walls. Wooden rails. Electric wire. What's next.
Every era of farming has been shaped by how we fenced it. We're building the next one.
A farm operating system for the next generation.
Remote, precise, livestock-aware, from the neckband on the animal to the satellite over the paddock. Nobody has done this at this scale before. We're doing it now.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime build. We want people who feel that.
Part 1
Who we are
eShepherd is virtual fencing for cattle. Solar-powered neckbands, a phone app, and a platform that lets farmers draw a paddock and have the mob move there by morning. No posts. No wire. No horses.
We're used on farms in 14+ countries, from the Burdekin in Queensland to South Dakota prairie, from Texas brush country to Hawkes Bay hill country. We've gone from startup to scale-up inside Gallagher, the New Zealand company that's been making farm fencing for 88 years. So we move like a startup, with the patience and reach of a business that's seen a few cycles.
The team is broad: engineering, firmware, AI, data, product, design, sales, marketing, customer success, technical support, and the people who keep it all running.
Part 2
Why work here
What we ship changes how farmers live.
A bull breeder in WA, whose cows and calves have never done better. A grazier moving cattle on his Taranaki river flat from a deck chair in Wanaka. A Texas rancher who's freed up his labour and can manage country more intensively than he ever has. A Canadian regen farmer running 600,000 pounds per acre on half-acre paddocks. A Queensland producer protecting Great Barrier Reef catchments without putting a single post in the ground. A South Canterbury heifer operation that used to set twenty break fences a day and now sets none.
Animal welfare runs through everything we build. The neckbands cue with audio first, pulse rarely, and the system is designed around the animal, not just the human watching them.
We lead with clarity and care. We align and empower our people to strengthen our culture of innovation and to enable the future success of eShepherd.
From the eShepherd Lead Team
How we work
Our culture is one of progress over perfection. We ship, we learn from real farms in real conditions, and we ship again. We'd rather get something useful into a paddock this month and improve it than spend a year polishing it for a launch that may never come. Calculated risks beat clean theory, and we measure what worked, what didn't, and what we'd do differently next time.
We're number 8 wired. Kiwi ingenuity runs through everything we do. Resourcefulness over resources, practical solutions over perfect ones, getting on with it over endless deliberation. The default question is can we, not why we can't. We're comfortable being uncomfortable, because the work that actually moves the industry sits at the edge of what's been done before.
We say what we mean, and we own it. Mistakes get put on the table early, not buried. Disagreements happen in the open and respectfully. We'd rather have the hard conversation now than carry the unspoken version for six months. Feedback travels in both directions, given with care and received without flinching.
We respect every role and every thinking style. The engineer writing firmware, the CS rep on a support call, the analyst cleaning a dataset, the salesperson walking a paddock with a customer. Loud voices and quiet ones both get heard, because the best ideas often come from the person who's been listening. We're a global team, and being in a different city, country, or function shouldn't mean being further from the conversation.
We balance digital with real. AI, data, automation, modern tooling, we use them hard. But the best ideas come from time spent with farmers, animals, and country, not just screens. We pick big problems on purpose, and we measure success by what changes on the ground, not what ships in a roadmap.
We take care of each other. The work is demanding and the pace is real, but we're people first, with families, lives, and the things that matter outside of work. Personal connection matters. Honesty matters. We laugh with each other, never at each other. The people who do their best work are the ones who feel like whole humans while they're doing it.
We set goals we can actually hit, and we celebrate the wins when they land. Resilience is the long game. Most weeks something doesn't go to plan, and the team that gets up the next morning and goes again is the one that ships.
